Today's Doodling

A small section of a page of doodling and scratching. Happened to like this little guy most of all.

Gomez

No strong memories of the Addams Family. Never did much watch the show. Just practicing. Expressive face.

Nerds

Cover illustration for a magazine that features writing, photography and art from members of a website I've long lurked around. This issue will be dedicated to exploring the nerd. I was a little unsure what nerd actually means anymore. It is a term I now see being used with some pride. I envisioned them as people with a fondness for the enthusiasms of their childhood, for comic books, science fiction and technology, so I attempted to clutter the frame with signs of all that. Clutter can be a design challenge for as undisciplined and anxious a draftsman as I. This is my first finished illustration using MyPaint, an open source paint program that I'm using as an alternative to purchasing Photoshop. I like it, much simpler, and it has the feel of actual drawing tools.

Chris

Caricature of a friend who wanted to see how he would look. It could use some more work to be properly finished, but I reached that stage where I've been at it for a bit and have become uncertain if I started in the right direction. This required watching The Comic Book Store on Youtube to see if Pedro would appear so that I could get good reference. That proved fruitless effort.

Uncle Aron

Uncle Aron is a stone deaf old man. For his birthday one of his nieces has picked him a basket of wild strawberries. I was watching the movie a month or so ago and liked the look of this character. This pose sticks fairly close to the still I took from a Youtube video, but I may revisit this character in the future to play around in a more cartoony way with an old man with an ear horn, a bib, a combover, pince-nez and a basket of berries.
