Second Sketchbook

My drawing sessions have become less frequent with this book, and the results are feeling more tentative. I can find fewer pages where I like a characterization or two. It seems like I started searching for a smoother approach - the elegant gesture or shape - and drifted away from the sketch when I didn't hit the right idea on the first couple lines. There are some pages left in this book, but maybe I'll start a new one for the new year, and make a resolution to fill pages quicker.

Sketchbooks

I'll post some of the sketches from the books I've been keeping the past year. I never used to be able to do this, because I was too self-conscious about my drawings and fearful that someone would question what I was doing. Advice on websites to always carry a sketchbook convinced me I needed to become more willing to draw in public. Fortunately, I've found that no one pays any attention to what I'm doing. It's good practice, brings more variety through observation than when I'm always drawing out of my head.
